Angiosarcorma of Ovary: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Primary angiosarcoma of the ovary is an extremely rare tumor posing diagnostic challenges for clinician due to it’s non specific clinical presentation and morphological resemblance to other malignancies.

We present a case of, 34-year-old woman with a rapidly increasing left ovarian mass. With a working diagnosis of malignant epithelial ovarian tumor, staging laparotomy with total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-ophorectomy, infracolic omentectomy, pelvic lymphadnectomy and appendectomy was done.

On cut section, solid-cystic spaces along with hemorrhagic areas and multiple papillary projection were present. Microscopic examination showed anastomosing vascular spaces interspersed with solid areas. Immunohistochemistry revealed tumor cells being positive for CD31 and FLI1 with negative immunostaining for SMA, S-100 and calponin confirming the diagnosis of primary ovarian angiosarcoma.

Following surgery, the patient further received adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She remains tumor free till date.

Primary angiosarcoma of the ovary remains a diagnostic challenge,emphasizing the importance of histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
