摘要

Purpose

Tumour protein 63 (P63) is a transcription factor of the P53 gene family involved in differentiation of several tissues including squamous. The study aimed to detect the expression of P63 in breast cancer lesion among Sudanese women by using immnohistochemical staining.

Methods

This was hospital based analytical retrospective case control study conducted in Radiation and Isotope Centre (Khartoum State) Sudan. Forty paraffin blocks previously diagnosed as breast tumors were included in this study, then stained by immunohistochemical method for detection of P63.

Results

16 (40%) with invasive ductal carcinoma. 7 (17.50%) fibroadenoma and lobular carcinoma, 4 (10%) ductal carcinomainsitu and 3 (7.5%) papillary carcinoma and fibrocystic. In Association analysis, the P63 is more significantly (The P value was 0.001) expressed among ductal carcinoma in situ. Also, the P63 expression showed no correlation with stage of breast cancer.

Conclusions

The study concluded that by using immnohistochemical staining method, the expression of P63 is associated with malignant breast in breast cancer lesions and no expression showed in benign breast lesions, breast cancer occurs more commonly in females aged above 40 years.
