Performance Evaluation of Annulus Cemented Stone Columns for Enhancing Soft Soil-Bearing Capacity
摘要
This study evaluates the performance of soft soil reinforced with conventional stone columns (SC), cemented stone columns (CSC), and innovative annulus cemented stone columns (ACSC) through experimental and numerical analyses. While SC improve soil stiffness through granular compaction and drainage, CSC enhance load-bearing capacity through cementation but reduce permeability. The proposed ACSC combines the advantages of both—its hollow annular design (optimal diameter ratio DR = 2.5) provides 28% higher bearing capacity than CSC and 43% greater lateral resistance than SC, while maintaining permeability comparable to granular columns. Large-scale numerical modeling validates that ACSC's unique geometry enables efficient stress redistribution, reducing settlement by mobilizing both internal and external soil confinement. The results demonstrate ACSC's superior performance under axial and lateral loading, particularly for embankments, offering a technically advanced solution for soft soil improvement that balances strength, stiffness, and drainage requirements.
