Assessing women’s satisfaction with childbirth services in Bihar: implications for healthcare revisit intentions
摘要
Pregnancy related complications and childbirth claim the lives of numerous women worldwide. Poor quality of care is the prime cause of such deaths, and user’s satisfaction can be an important indicator of it. In this study, we sought to quantify women’s satisfaction with childbirth services and to determine whether their level of satisfaction influences their intention to revisit the facility. In order to accomplish these objectives a cross-sectional survey was conducted in the postnatal wards of tertiary care facility based in two of the districts of the Indian state, Bihar. Patient’s satisfaction after delivery was measured using a structured questionnaire based on the scale proposed by Okumu and Oyugi (PloS one 13:e0193593, 2018). Further, to examine the relationship between respondent’s satisfaction level and their intention to visit the facility again, multinomial logistic regression model was used. Results suggest that majority of mothers are satisfied with the care they received during childbirth. Lowest level of satisfaction was registered with postpartum care and the privacy that was preserved by healthcare personnel. Findings also confirm the strong and significant association between satisfaction level of patients with regard to childbirth services and their intention to visit the facility again in future. Thus there is a need of improvement in the postpartum care and the maintenance of privacy during the process of care.
