Synchronously Utilizing Zinc-Bearing Dust and Reduced Pellet Screening by Direct Reduction

Rotary hearth furnace direct reduction is one of the effective processes for treating zinc-bearing dust (ZBD). In this study, a novel process for direct reduction of ZBD and reduced pellet screening in a rotary hearth furnace through cold briquetting was reported, and investigated the direct reduction mechanism of ZBD. The direct reduction study indicates that the metallicized pellets can be prepared with a compressive strength of 1245 N, an iron grade of 70.12%, a metallization rate of 96.90%, and a zinc removal rate of 98.53% under a temperature of 1275 °C, a duration of 30 min, a reducing agent dosage of 5%. In addition, the metallization degree, iron grade, and dezincification rate did not change significantly with the addition of 10% reduced pellet screening under the optimum conditions described above, and the reduced pellet strength was increased by 264 N.
