A Novel Process for Extracting Lead and Zinc from Low-Grade Lead–Zinc Ore Via Low-Temperature Chlorination Roasting and Water Leaching

The depletion of high-grade lead–zinc ore has led to the necessity of developing low-grade lead–zinc ore for the sustainable utilization of lead–zinc resources. A simple method for extracting lead and zinc from low-grade ore that cannot be enriched through flotation was proposed. Initially, the low-grade ore underwent chlorination roasting, followed by leaching with water to achieve the extraction of lead and zinc. Under the conditions of roasting temperature of 500 °C, NaCl/sample mass ratio of 3.0, roasting time of 90 min, air feeding speed of 0.1 L·min−1, leaching temperature of 90 °C, leaching time of 120 min, pulp density of 10%, the leaching efficiency of lead and zinc were up to 91.23 and 85.75%, respectively. The leaching process obeys the shrinking core model. The apparent activation energy of lead and zinc can be calculated as 17.38 and 11.81 kJ·mol−1, respectively, indicating that the leaching process depends on the diffusion.
