Identification and driving factor analysis of land use spatial conflicts in ecologically fragile plateau areas

Urbanization and global climate change have contributed to significant changes in regional land use, which have resulted in serious land use spatial conflicts. However, researchers have different perspectives on the identification of spatial conflicts, and less attention has been paid to the ecologically fragile areas of the plateau. The study used multiple landscape indices to construct the spatial conflict composite indicator (SCCI) and the eco-environment value (EV) to identify actual spatial conflict areas (ASCA). A random forest model was also used to explore the importance of factors influencing spatial conflict. The study findings reveal that: (1) Grasslands constitute the dominant land use type in Qinghai Province, with significant transformations occurring between various land use types. (2) The regional EV remains relatively low, while a general trend of improvement has been shown over the past two decades. (3) Regional spatial conflicts are predominantly general and low. The SCCI values of the Three-River-Source National Park decreased significantly, while ASCA was mainly distributed in the northwestern Haixi Prefecture. (4) Annual precipitation, mean annual temperature, and elevation are important factors influencing differences in spatial conflict, which is the most sensitive to changes in population density. The study aims to provide a valuable reference for informing future ecological civilization construction efforts and policy development in high-altitude cold regions.
