Assessing the Interplay of Religious Coping, Cravings, and Readiness for Change in Individuals with Opioid and Alcohol Dependence: A Prospective Study
摘要
Alcohol dependence impacts about 6.5% of men and 1.5% of women worldwide, typically manifesting in earlyadulthood but capable of arising at any age with recurrent alcohol exposure. Opioid dependency also arises fromconsistent opioid use; however, such usage alone may not suffi ce for dependence. This study aimed to investigatereligious coping and attitudes among individuals with opioid dependence syndrome (ODS) and alcohol dependencesyndrome (ADS) due to the rising incidence of these substances. This prospective study had 40 patients, consistingof 20 diagnosed with ODS and 20 with ADS. Data were collected using the Religious Attitude Scale, the Brief RCOPE,the Severity of Dependence Scale, the Desire for Drug Questionnaire (DDQ), and the Stages of Change Readinessand Treatment Eagerness Scale (SOCRATES, Forms 8D and 8A). Assessments were administered at baseline, on days7 and 14. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 25. Findings demonstrated that those with ADSshowed higher levels of positive religious coping relative to those with ODS. In the ADS group, positive religiouscoping correlated with more signifi cant decreases in desire and enhanced readiness to change compared to the ODSgroup. The fi ndings indicate that religious coping may have a positive impact on the treatment of substancedependence, especially in persons with alcohol dependence.
