摘要

Relapse prevention therapy is found to be effective in the process of preventing or delaying relapse by persons with alcohol use disorder. It is based on the cognitive-behavioral approach and employs strategies to identify high-risk situations. The study aims to identify high-risk situations and provide relapse prevention therapy to a client with alcohol dependence to maintain abstinence. The study is based on a single-case study design. The case in this context is an individual diagnosed with alcohol dependence syndrome as per the international classification of diseases-10 (ICD-10). A qualitative assessment was conducted to assess the psychosocial background of the client. Following the assessment, psychosocial interventions were provided in the form of relapse prevention therapy sessions at the individual and family psychoeducation. During the follow-ups at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after the psychosocial treatment, the individual was found to be abstinent with an improvement in work functioning. Relapse prevention therapy techniques have been effective in helping the client maintain abstinence. The client was also able to develop alternative ways of coping with stressful situations.
