An Inquiry into the Use of a Watery Extract from Areca catechu Nuts in a Simulated Oil Well Water Environment as a Natural Corrosion Preventive for Mild Steel
摘要
The anti-corrosion behavior of aqueous extract of Areca catechu nut (ACN) in simulated oil well water solution on mild steel were studied by various techniques, like scanning electron microscopy (SEM), weight loss measurements, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and potentio dynamic polarization. The extracts were shown to 97% inhibition efficiency for weight loss method. The extracts exhibited mixed-type inhibitory activity with primarily anodic efficacy, according to the potentio dynamic polarization investigation. The main active principle component arecolin was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy study. Scanning electron microscopy techniques supported the success of corrosion inhibition with the presence of inhibitor.
