<p>Pristine epoxy coating exhibited low mechanical properties and bad anti-corrosion for CT3 steel. In this work, we prepared the ternary epoxy coating with the co-adding of modified fly ash and modified butyl rubber applying for CT3 steel. Many characteristics of epoxy coating as gloss, color change, hardness, adhesion strength, impact strength, bending property, abrasion resistance, and corrosion have been examined in detail. The surface of fly ash was treated with NaOH solution, while the butyl rubber was grafted with maleic anhydrite to enhance the compatibility with epoxy matrix. The chemical structure of anhydrite maleic grafted butyl rubber, and modified fly ash were confirmed by the FTIR technique. With the co-adding of modified fly ash (MFA) and anhydrite maleic grafted butyl rubber (MBR) the mechanical properties of epoxy coating were improved. The adhesion strength of epoxy coating with co-adding of MFA and MBR was improved up to 83.5% in comparison with pristine coating. While the abrasion resistance was also improved via the decreasing of abrasion value up to 66.7%. Especially, the modified epoxy coating by co-adding these additives exhibited good corrosion characteristic by reaching the Ri 1 after 336h corrosion, and coating resistance Rc increased by 11 time greater when compared with pure epoxy coating.</p>
