摘要

Chemicalcompounds from Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy and functional experimentations of pulverized egg shell extract (PESE) with acetone as solvent showed the presence of polar and non-polar compounds. Among the found organic compounds, some were found to be green and raw materials for medical companies and the polymer industry. Corrosion inhibition investigation was carried out using gravimetric, thermometric, and potentiodynamic polarization approaches, and morphological characterization. Results obtained demonstrated that the extract significantly reduced the half-life of steel, indicating that the oxidation of mild steel in HCl solutions was mitigated due to the adsorption of active chemical components from the extract onto the adsorbent surface. This suggests that the active ingredients in the extract were instrumental in safeguarding and prolonging the lifespan of the steel samples against corrosion-triggering chloride anion. Findings from gravimetric, thermometric, and potentiodynamic polarization approaches are in alignment and indicate that the extract's effectiveness is dependent on concentration and time. The extract efficiency was noticed to increase with concentration until the solution reached saturation point, and decreased with prolonged immersion time. The observed FTIR peaks and morphological display also corroborate the reported inhibitory prowess of the extract. Potentiodynamic polarization parameters revealed that the extract acted with a mixed mechanism.
