Study of Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in 0.1N HCl Solution using 3-[(4-methoxy phenyl)imino]-1,3-dihydro-2H- indole-2-one
摘要
The harmful impact of metal corrosion makes its global occurrence a critical concern. The need for non-toxic and environmentally friendly substitutes for toxic and hazardous synthetic corrosion inhibitors is pressing because of laws that forbid their growing environmental concerns. In the present study the inhibition efficiency of the synthesized inhibitor 3-[(4-methoxy phenyl)imino]-1,3-dihydro-2H- indole-2-one in 0.1 N HCl solution was studied by using weight loss, electrochemical analysis like open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization methods. It has been noted that as the inhibitor concentration rises, so does the efficiency of the inhibition. At 600 ppm of inhibitor concentration, 92.10% of inhibition was seen. Based on the electrochemical data, the inhibitor has been shown to function as an effective anti-corrosive agent. The data best fit the Langmuir adsorption isotherm the best according to the obtained data. The inhibitor in the study is a mixed type of inhibitor according to the polarization studies. The employed inhibitor supports both the physical and chemical adsorption process, which was shown by the thermodynamic studies. The protective layer formed on the mild steel surface was analyzed by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDAX) techniques. The results obtained from weight loss analysis, electrochemical analysis and surface analytical techniques were in good agreement with each other.
