摘要

In many different industries, corrosion is a ubiquitous issue that compromises the longevity, safety, and integrity of machinery, structures, and infrastructure. Conventional methods of preventing corrosion frequently involve the use of poisonous, dangerous, and environmentally harmful inhibitors, which present a serious risk to public health and the environment. The development of environmentally responsible and long-lasting corrosion inhibitors has garnered increased attention in recent times. The distinct inaugurations in nanotechnology and nanoscience will eventually govern the various industries globally. Nanoparticles (NPs)/nanocomposites have to be used in a variety of fields, including food, industrial, medicinal, agriculture, and the environment. These NPs/nanocomposites can be synthesised through the use of physical and chemical methods. Physical and chemical techniques can be used to synthesise these NPs/nanocomposites. Metal nanoparticles/nanocomposites including silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)/nanocomposite exhibit remarkable properties that continue to entice researchers to investigate the novel modifications to their assessment. The focus is now primarily on AgNPs/nanocomposites, which are usually prepared with hazardous chemicals that destroy the ecosystem. The remarkable advantages of environmentally friendly methods have also cleared the path for fascinating advancements in the AgNPs/nanocomposite synthesis. The green AgNPs/nanocomposites are being investigated as corrosion inhibitors due to their ecological compatibility and abundance. Literature survey scanty on the review article of silver nanoparticles/nanocomposites as a corrosion inhibitor for various metals in different corrosive environment. Hence, this review article discusses the classification, mechanisms of action, and uses of sustainable corrosion inhibitors (AgNPs/nanocomposites) in a variety of industries. The classification, modes of action, and applications of sustainable corrosion inhibitors (AgNPs/nanocomposites) across a range of industries are covered in this review article. Furthermore, the use and purpose of density functional theory (DFT) in estimating corrosion inhibitor corrosion inhibition effect are also covered. The paper also sheds light on the difficulties and possibilities involved in creating sustainable corrosion inhibitors, emphasising the necessity of ongoing study and advancement in this crucial field. Aspiring researchers may find new ideas from this review, which presents all of the most recent data on a single paper.
