Purpose of review <p>In this work, we review recent literature published on the importance of leadership in the trauma bay and more specifically aim to evaluate: leadership styles, leadership assessment tools, professionalism, the concepts of command and control and systems-based practice, and leadership education.</p> Recent findings <p>The formal evaluation of leadership using validated tools in simulation or trauma video review formats to improve individual skill and team function are on the rise. These studies express commonalities and demonstrate that leadership can be improved with thoughtful education and feedback.</p> Summary <p>This area of research presents a prime opportunity for further evaluation and innovation. Clear, calm, and effective leadership is key to a trauma team’s success and ultimate progression of the trauma patient’s care.</p>
