<p>For over 40&#xa0;years, suicide has been a leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States. This article reviews mortality statistics from 1980 onward, identifies trends and outliers, and considers possible reasons why teen suicide death rates sometimes increase and other times decrease. From these observations, it is suggested that educators’ suicide prevention advocacy should focus on managing social media, limiting firearm access, and improving access to health care.</p>
