Purpose <p>A scoping review was conducted to evaluate business curriculum in U.S. undergraduate medical education (UME).</p> Methods <p>A search (PRISMA-ScR) of research databases was conducted to identify studies evaluating U.S. allopathic medical school business curriculum. Data was synthesized qualitatively.</p> Results <p>The 17 studies meeting inclusion criteria were highly heterogeneous. Reported qualitative outcomes demonstrated a theme recognizing the need for business education and a lack of consistent outcome measurement or rigorous methodology.</p> Conclusion <p>An important gap exists regarding business curricula in UME and literature is limited. A consensus on core competencies is a necessary first step before educational development and evaluation.</p>

Purpose

A scoping review was conducted to evaluate business curriculum in U.S. undergraduate medical education (UME).

Methods

A search (PRISMA-ScR) of research databases was conducted to identify studies evaluating U.S. allopathic medical school business curriculum. Data was synthesized qualitatively.

Results

The 17 studies meeting inclusion criteria were highly heterogeneous. Reported qualitative outcomes demonstrated a theme recognizing the need for business education and a lack of consistent outcome measurement or rigorous methodology.

Conclusion
