<p>The aim of the study was to conduct an exploratory pilot study to record the views of entrepreneurs who run micro and small businesses on the topic of occupational health and safety support. The focus of the interviews was on gaining insights into barriers and supporting factors for achieving adequate occupational health and safety support in micro and small enterprises. The interviewees (entrepreneurs) were recruited by sending a&#xa0;letter to the member companies of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for Health and Welfare Services (BGW). A total of 15&#xa0;telephone interviews were conducted between August and October 2023 using a standard protocol. The following barriers for the recruiting of occupational health and safety services were identified: unawareness of the employer’s obligation to appoint company doctors/occupational safety specialists, not realizing the relevant information material provided in this respect, high costs, difficulties in appointing service providers and unfavorable cost-benefit assessment due to the perception that the need for occupational healthcare is limited whereas the legal requirements are disproportionately high. The participants would like to have more and clearer information and the provision of personal contact persons by the employers’ statutory accident insurance. In addition, support in the search for service providers is desired. In view of the results, it seems advisable to review and adapt the existing concepts for informing entrepreneurs about their obligation regarding health and safety.</p>
