<p>The use of glove liners underneath impermeable (watertight) protective gloves reduces accumulation of heat and moisture (occlusion effects) and is an established measure to prevent occupational hand dermatoses, especially when gloves are worn for prolonged periods of time. Various studies demonstrated good skin tolerance, usability and user acceptance of textile glove liners for both healthy individuals and those with skin diseases on the hands. Particularly in the healthcare sector, however, hygienic aspects must be considered when glove liners are used. So far, there is a&#xa0;lack of findings and recommendations addressing this issue, even though the correct implementation and application of this skin protection measure are of high importance in hygiene-sensitive work areas. The aim of this study was to conduct an online survey among healthcare workers with skin diseases and professionals responsible for prevention measures in the healthcare sector to evaluate the availability, usage, circumstances and risks associated with the use of glove liners. Based on the survey results the current practice in healthcare settings is presented and compared across various fields. Furthermore, possible causes and the resulting risks (potential need for action) are presented and practical recommendations for the hygienically safe use of glove liners in the healthcare sector are provided.</p>
