A three-dimensional study on the international communication of Black Myth: Wukong
摘要
Black Myth: Wukong is the first 3A game in China, which was officially launched in August 2024, and has attracted widespread attention worldwide, especially in overseas markets. This paper discusses the global influence of Black Myth: Wukong by analysing its communication power in three dimensions: industry, culture and values. Firstly, in the industry dimension, the game combines with advanced digital technology to show great commercial potential in the dimensions of market performance and brand empowerment. Secondly, in the dimension of cultural output, the game has promoted the return of the narrative sovereignty of ‘Journey to the West’ through the re-creation of the traditional Chinese myth, and conveyed the essence of Chinese culture with delicate Chinese aesthetic design and music. Finally, in terms of values, the game incorporates the religious ideas of Buddhism and Taoism as well as the philosophy of destiny, demonstrating the diversity and inclusiveness of traditional Chinese philosophy. Overall, Black Myth: Wukong is not only a successful commercial game, but also becomes an important carrier of Chinese culture spreading to the outside world, which enhances the identity and influence of Chinese culture in the global context.
