<p>With the deepening of cultural globalization, Chinese characters, as unique symbols of Chinese culture, have transformed from traditional writing tools to visual symbols in cross-cultural communication. This study adopts semiotic analysis and case study methods to focus on the expressiveness and symbolism of Chinese characters in cross-cultural contexts, especially in the context of Chinese character tattoos. The discussion of "mistranslation" and "mismeaning" phenomena reveals the re-creation and misreading of Chinese characters in foreign cultures and analyses how the poetic function of Chinese characters is reflected in the physical representation of foreign cultural symbols. This article aims to clarify the complexity, fluidity and multiple cultural meanings of Chinese characters in cross-cultural communication.</p>
