摘要

Should patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) be considered at risk of developing metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes (T2D)? A large body of scientific evidence shows that beyond glucocorticoids, also aldosterone, which is the most important mineralcorticoid hormone, can affect glucose metabolism, such that we can recognise the existence of a T2D secondary to PA. In this review, we will examine the prevalence of T2D in patients with PA, the mechanisms whereby aldosterone affects glucose homeostasis, the effects of PA treatment on glucose metabolism, and T2D drugs most suitable in this context.
