摘要

Bone is a dynamic tissue that undergoes a continuous process of modelling and remodelling. The coordinated activity of bone cells is essential for the maintenance of skeletal integrity and bone-related endocrine functions. In particular, several scientific studies have shown how factors secreted by osteoblasts/osteocytes are able to regulate mineral metabolism, insulin secretion, male fertility, learning and memory, and appetite. Indeed, osteoblasts/osteocytes secrete FGF-23, Lipocalin 2, Osteocalcin and Sclerostin exerting their functions on different organs and tissues, including kidney, pancreas, liver, adipose tissue, testis and brain. This review aims to discuss the main scientific published papers that have had a strong impact on bone physiology and diseases.
