Dr. Maria Antonia Padilla Vargas: Impact of a Career Devoted to the Analysis of Scientists’ Training and Scientific Practice from a Behavior Analytic Perspective

María Antonia Padilla Vargas (1968–2020) was a prolific research professor at the University of Guadalajara. Her professional career was characterized by her efforts to open spaces for the promotion and dissemination of psychology and her research activity. She published seven books, 15 chapters, and 42 articles indexed in international journals. Her research focused on scientific practice and the training of scientists, with a final interest in academic procrastination. The present article seeks to honor the memory of Padilla Vargas by recounting her most important publications and contributions to the development of psychology and behavior analysis in Mexico. It highlights some of the theories and methods used to explore aspects of scientists’ training, complex learning, complex behavior, and some developments of Ribes-Iñesta’s behavior theory, as well as understanding the impact of her work through its citations. Padilla Vargas collaborated with several prominent figures in Behavior Analysis in Mexico, such as Emilio Ribes Iñesta and Julio Varela, and mentored and collaborated with young researchers who are now prolific authors. Her research on scientist training has had a significant impact not only on behavior analysis but also on education literature. Dr. Padilla Vargas’ career illustrates a coherent effort to understand the scientific endeavor and the training of researchers. Her legacy, which continues in the work of those who collaborated with her, is a testament to the enduring importance of her contributions.
