A Review on Hydrogen Powered Fuel Cell Vehicles: The Present Scenario and Prospects for the Future
摘要
The objective of the review is to provide a comprehensive overview of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, highlighting the types of fuel cells, their current global market analysis, and fuel cell concepts. In addition to discussing future prospects and developments needed for wider acceptance in the sustainable transport industry, it also considers the infrastructural and commercialisation issues.
Recent FindingsThis paper discusses recent developments in fuel cell engines to explore the possibility of hydrogen being the main source of energy in transportation systems. Hydrogen is employed to produce power in hydrogen-fuelled combustion engines, similar to conventional car engines. Fuel cells, however, employ a chemical reaction to produce electrical energy from hydrogen. Hydrogen fuel used in internal combustion engines presents a feasible substitute for fossil fuels that when combusted emit poisonous gases like hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market is expected to be valued at USD 2.1 billion by the year 2024.
SummaryDue to the adverse consequences of emissions of conventional vehicles, researchers are relying on greener sources of energy. Hydrogen will prove to be an important source of energy in the near future so that there will be emission controls. Other than other features, hydrogen is an excellent ecological source of energy for automobiles. Like electricity, hydrogen is an energy carrier that can transport tremendous amounts of energy. Hydrogen storage onboard should be one of the primary considerations in fuel-cell vehicle design.
