Curvature-elasticity manifolds of demand systems
摘要
This paper extends the concept of demand manifolds, introduced by Mrázová and Neary (Am Econ Rev 107(12):3835–3874, 2017) for demand functions, to the more general case of multiple-product demand systems. A demand manifold, or Curvature-Elasticity Manifold (CEM), is a smooth curve that relates the elasticity and curvature of a demand function, serving as a sufficient statistic for many comparative statics results. I propose a formal definition of the CEM of a demand system, discuss its properties and interpretation, and derive it for several demand systems. These results provide a base for future theoretical and empirical work in applied consumer theory.
