Modelling the key drivers of agro-based startups: an ISM-based study

This study examines the primary growth drivers of India’s agro-based startups using interpretive structural modelling (ISM). Drawing on a literature review of approximately 45 papers from Scopus and ABDC journals, in-depth interviews with 35 startups at various stages of development, and the nominal group technique (NGT) conducted with 10 experts, the research identifies 12 critical growth factors impacting the success of agro-based startups. These drivers are analyzed and classified by dependency and influence using ISM and MICMAC techniques, with the findings depicted in hierarchical models and dependency matrices. Results highlight “age of the firm” as a key dependent factor, shaped by elements such as entrepreneurial orientation, absorptive capacity, innovation capability, profitability, customer satisfaction, and market orientation. This framework provides valuable insights for stakeholders, aiding in the development of sustainable strategies that strengthen the adaptability and efficiency of India’s agro-startup sector and provide a ready bank of growth drivers for researchers.
