摘要

This meta-analysis investigated whether parents of autistic children report different levels of parental self-efficacy (PSE) than parents of non-autistic children. A comprehensive literature search identified 15 articles that assessed PSE in parents of autistic children and non-autistic children (N = 3478 participants). Findings indicate that parents of autistic children report significantly lower PSE than parents of non-autistic children, with a medium effect size (Hedges’ g = − 0.694). To explore significant heterogeneity, three moderators were examined – study location, measure of PSE, and composition of study sample. Study location was a significant moderator such that effect sizes were larger in studies conducted in the United States. PSE measure type and study sample composition were not significant moderators. Findings highlight the importance of understanding PSE in parents of autistic children.
