Purpose of the Review <p>The goal of this paper is (1) to provide descriptions and applications of narrative research as it pertains to authentic engagement with, and authentic representation of the experiences of, disabled people and (2) to demonstrate how narrative methods can contribute to inclusive practices in research. The author also sought relevant background relating to narrative methods, and exemplars of narrative methods and their potential and promise.</p> Recent Findings <p>Disabled writers, scholars, and activists use narratives for a variety of purposes, including selective and/or fully disclosive access to disability experience, illuminating the challenges and successes associated with disability experience, providing descriptions of mundane experience, revealing oppressive and discriminatory practices, using humor, satire, and other techniques to demonstrate the breadth and effectiveness of narrative approaches.</p> Summary <p>Narrative methods as they relate to disabled people must always involve ongoing consultation with disabled people and must enact principles of disability justice and inclusion. Researchers must commit to professional development and ongoing education and upgrading in respectful and inclusive practices.</p>
