The main objective of this review is to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and to investigate herbal and synthetic molecular potential therapies showing neuroprotective effects in AD.
Recent FindingsAlzheimer’s disease is a severe neurological condition thatstands as the predominantcauses of memory among older people, profoundly impacting individuals, families, and healthcare systems. It is defined by a gradual decrease in cognitive abilities functions, involves memory, reasoning, and behavioral abilities. We explore the multifaceted causes and underlying etiology of AD, including genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that contribute to its development. The article delves into the various risk factors and epidemiological trends associated with AD, providing insights into how demographic changes and lifestyle factors influence disease prevalence. A critical examination of the pathogenic features of AD includes presented, focusing the formation of beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles within a brain, and their roles in neuronal dysfunction and cognitive decline. Current treatment strategies are reviewed in depth, encompassing both pharmacological approaches, like inhibiting cholinesterase or glutamate receptor inhibitors. Furthermore, the article investigates the role of herbal and synthetic treatments in the management of AD.
