Purpose of Review <p>To synthesize evidence on environmental exposures and menopausal symptomatology. Menopausal symptoms affect reproductive, mental, cardiovascular, urogenital, and metabolic health, sleep, bone strength, and cognitive function. As symptoms and exposures vary across cultures, we examine the literature’s inclusion of different ethnic populations.</p> Recent Findings <p>Sixteen studies show associations between exposure to phthalates, phenols, metals, parabens, air pollution, and organic solvents and menopausal symptoms. There is accumulating evidence that exposure to phthalates increase symptoms across multiple domains, suggesting that phthalates may be risk factors. While studies primarily included White participants, some associations were modified by ethnicity, race, and body mass index (BMI).</p> Summary <p>Studies show associations between environmental exposures and adverse menopausal symptoms. However, replication studies are needed to confirm exposure-symptom relationships. Future research should measure exposures across menopausal stages, examine co-occurring exposures and symptoms, and include diverse populations.</p>

Purpose of Review

To synthesize evidence on environmental exposures and menopausal symptomatology. Recent Findings
