Vibration control and multifunctional design based the acoustic black hole structure: a state-of-the-art review

Acoustic black hole configuration (ABH) design is a type of technique for passive structural vibration control, by utilizing local inhomogeneities, such as gradual variations of cross-section or gradient material properties, to efficiently attenuate vibrational energy of the structure. Recent advancements in the ABH provide promising design ideas and means for extraordinary vibration damping properties. This paper reviews the frontier works and the latest progress in the design, optimization and applications of ABH-based structures, focusing on the requirement of modern engineering equipment for vibration control and multifunctional design. The review provides a short historical perspective of the ABH, including the vibration-suppression mechanism, novel structural design, the ABH optimization and application. This paper also summarizes the development trend and outlines potential prospects. It is expected to provide inspiration for vibration control and multifunctional structure design in future engineering.
