A novel hybrid framework for prioritization of failure modes during forging die-design

Forging die design is one of the critical criteria which decides the die life. Various criteria involved in die design influence the die life. Hence, it is essential to prioritize between various criteria to prevent the future recurrence of the problem caused by the failures. The current article attempts to propose a new methodology by hybridizing, Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) with Entropy Weighted Method (EWM). The ranking obtained by the hybrid technique is compared with the ranks obtained using finite element analysis (FEA) to validate the proposed hybridization. FEA analysis is carried out using DEFORM-3D software and analyzed using TOPSIS. It is observed that the proposed methodology shows more reliability compared to the traditional FMEA technique.
