The Effect of Exercise on Drug Craving in People with Methamphetamine Use Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

This study aims to investigate the effects of exercise on drug craving in individuals diagnosed with methamphetamine use disorder(MUD) through a meta-analytic approach.
Recent FindingsThe results indicated a statistically significant effect of exercise on reducing drug craving across different groups: males (SMD = -1.62, 95% CI: -2.23, -0.91, p < 0.0001), females (SMD = -1.48, 95% CI: -2.02, -0.95, p = 0.004), and mixed-sex groups (SMD = -5.39, 95% CI: -7.03, -3.76, p = 0.0008). However, significant variability was observed in the effect size across these groups. Both chronic exercise (SMD = -1.98, 95% CI: -2.62, -1.35, p < 0.00001) and acute exercise (SMD = -3.57, 95% CI: -7.19, 0.05, p < 0.00001) demonstrated efficacy in reducing drug craving for MUD.
