<p><i>Collaea</i> is a small monophyletic genus of tribe Diocleae (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae), currently with nine accepted species. <i>Collaea speciosa</i>, as currently circumscribed, includes several synonyms reflecting its wide geographical distribution across Andean Peru and Bolivia, and eastern Brazilian mountains as well as a broad morphological variation in flower traits, characterizing it as a taxonomic complex. Based on the analysis of herbarium specimens, observations of the plants in the field, and a complementary principal component analysis of reproductive and foliar characters, we propose taxonomic rearrangements in this complex. We narrow the circumscription for <i>C. speciosa</i>, recognize two new species, <i>C. cardosoana</i> and <i>C. maxima</i>, and propose the new combination <i>C. coccinea</i>. Additionally, we provide morphological descriptions, illustrations, information on geographic distributions, habitats, and preliminary assessment of the conservation status of the species.</p>
