Purpose <p>Dentists’ knowledge and opinions about silver diamine fluoride (SDF) may influence decisions regarding the management of carious lesions.</p> <p>The aim of this cross-sectional study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and use of SDF by Brazilian dentists.</p> Methods <p>Participants completed an electronic questionnaire assessing their knowledge of SDF, indications for its use, clinical protocol, and disadvantages. Data were analysed descriptively and using bivariate tests.</p> Results <p>The majority of participants (88.5%) were familiar with SDF; however, only 47.5% had used it in clinical practice. Use was more frequent in primary teeth (95.6%) than in permanent teeth (36.2%). SDF use was significantly higher among paediatric dentists (73.8%) compared to other dentists (26.2%) (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001). Most respondents correctly identified the steps of the clinical protocol, although 46% reported that soft carious tissue should be removed before SDF application. There was high agreement regarding the use of SDF to arrest cavitated lesions, particularly in primary teeth, multiple carious lesions and in children with uncooperative behaviour. Discolouration was reported as the main disadvantage of SDF use.</p> Conclusion <p>Although most Brazilian dentists are familiar with SDF, its clinical application remains limited. Greater acceptance was observed among paediatric dentists. Aesthetic concerns were the main barrier reported.</p>
