A Current Transformer Saturation Correction Using Levenberg–Marquardt Algorithm

A new method for correcting distortions in the secondary fault current in current transformers (CTs) operating under saturation conditions is proposed. The technique is based on the least-squares method of Levenberg–Marquardt and uses samples from the nondistorted region of the fault current along the waveform reconstruction process. The proposed method was implemented, and experimental results were obtained on a real-time simulation to current transformer saturation correction. Several cases were tested, and the experimental results presented showed that the proposed method was very effective in improving the performance of protection schemes based on current measurement, due to the correction of CT distortion using the proposed technique.
