Adis summary of research: Omalizumab in severe asthma: effect on oral corticosteroid exposure and remodelling. A randomized open-label parallel study

Omalizumab, a humanized murine anti-IgE monoclonal antibody, has a well-established efficacy and safety profile in moderate to severe allergic asthma. It reduces the need for inhaled corticosteroids. However, there is a lack of randomized clinical trials demonstrating its effectiveness in sparing oral corticosteroids (OCs). This Adis Summary of Research reports the effects of omalizumab on OC use, pulmonary function, airway inflammation, asthma exacerbation and airway remodelling in patients with OC-dependent allergic asthma.
