<p>The latest evidence indicates that vault RNAs (vtRNAs) may be involved in the growth and advancement of cancer. In this case-control study, we used quantitative Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) to detect the expression of two vault RNAs (vtRNA1-1 and vtRNA1-2) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 50 colorectal cancer (CRC) patients and 60 healthy individuals. The expression levels of vtRNA1-1 and vtRNA1-2 were significantly upregulated in colorectal cancer cases (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). In addition, correlation analysis revealed that vtRNA1-2 was significantly associated with TNM staging, while vtRNA1-1 showed a strong correlation with only tumor location. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that it has a good predictive value for the risk of CRC. In conclusion, these findings suggest that vtRNA1-1 and vtRNA1-2 may be associated with CRC progression and could serve as potential biomarkers for disease detection. Further functional studies are required to determine their mechanistic roles in CRC biology.</p>
