Purpose of the Review

This review summarises the recent literature on the perioperative care of the elderly. It will provide a guide to the management of such patients.

Recent Findings

Numerous societies involved in the formulating anesthetic guidelines have published recommendations to possibly reduce the perioperative morbidity and mortality of the elderly population.

Summary

Advances in anesthetic techniques have improved the care provided to the geriatric population undergoing surgery.
