摘要

Purpose of Review

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have proven to have consistent benefits in numerous surgical specialties since the 1990s. Bariatric patients are uniquely challenging and in 2021, the second societal ERAS guidelines were published for this patient population. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of the current literature supporting each of the various components of a bariatric-specific ERAS protocol.

Recent Findings

The quality of evidence varies for the different components of a comprehensive ERAS protocol, however there is increasing evidence to support the efficacy of bariatric-specific ERAS protocols.

Summary

ERAS protocols in bariatric surgery were relatively sparse a decade ago, but evidence now supports that they can successfully and safely decrease extended length of stay and morbidity in the bariatric population.
