摘要

Purpose of Review

The purpose of this review is to summarize the current literature regarding indications, surgical innovations, and outcomes for maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Recent Findings

The advancement of computer assisted planning and new surgical techniques, like distraction osteogenesis maxillary expansion, offer increased customized treatment plans and improved outcomes for patients requiring MMA for OSA. Recent findings confirm the procedure’s long-term success through measures like the apnea–hypopnea index and airway space volume.

Summary

MMA is a highly effective surgical treatment for patients with OSA across varying baseline disease severities. It has been shown to lead to a decrease in AHI and an increase in airway volume and quality of life. Future research should examine how surgical decision-making impacts functional and aesthetic outcomes in MMA.
