Consolidation Analysis by Rectangular Hyperbola Method for Different Initial Pore Water Pressure Distributions
摘要
Determination of consolidation parameters required for the time rate of consolidation analysis and for the estimation of primary consolidation/maximum settlement depends upon the initial excess pore water pressure distribution developed across the thickness of the compressible soil stratum upon loading. Even though rectangular hyperbola method (RH method) has been introduced as an useful tool in the area of consolidation analysis long back, it is still confined to dealing with uniform/linear initial excess pore water pressure distribution. In view of addressing various field problems where initial excess pore water pressure distributions other than the uniform type prevail, it is required to extend the RH method to such cases also. In the present work, the RH method of consolidation analysis for uniform initial excess pore water distribution is revisited, and the theoretical formulations of RH method of consolidation analysis for sinusoidal, half sine and triangular types of initial excess pore water pressure distributions are made and presented. The present note does not contain the numerical/experimental validation of the theoretical formulations for want of field/experimental data pertaining to the consolidation of compressible layers with sinusoidal, half sine and triangular types of initial excess pore water pressure distributions.
