<p>Efficient dam management practices require incorporation of adequate seepage control measures in order to ensure dam safety. This can be achieved by timely detection of excessive and uncontrolled seepage and their flow paths so that remedial measures can be adopted to control it. Fluorescent dye tracer techniques, which are normally used in hydrological studies, have been adapted here to investigate the probable seepage zones at Upper Manar Dam Project, Nanded District, Maharashtra, India. The project comprised of a 1000&#xa0;m long earthen dam with a 50&#xa0;m long nonoverflow portion (NOF) on the left flank, masonry portion on the right flank with 180&#xa0;m overflow (OF) section and 30&#xa0;m NOF section. Leakages were observed at the earthen junction on the right flank, specifically at the key wall junction as well as in downstream side. To assess the interconnection between the reservoir water, a spring on the downstream and leakages on the right flank of the dam, dye tracer studies were conducted. Boreholes were drilled at different locations including the key wall junction within the hillock, on the hillock itself and near the downstream spring. The results confirmed the existence of potential seepage path through the junction of key wall portion of the abutment and the jointed basaltic hillock on the right flank of the dam.</p>
