Designing Underground Mine Support Systems in Weak Rock Zones at Pongkor Gold Mining, Bogor Regency, West Java Province, Indonesia
摘要
Geotechnical engineers face challenges when tunneling underground mining through weak rock zones or incompetent rock mass because of errors in predicting design support systems. The study area in this research pertains to Cross Cut 61A and Cross Cut 685, two stopes at Level 600 Ciurug, Pongkor Gold Mining, West Java Province of Indonesia. This research aims to determine the optimal support for weak rock zones in the Pongkor underground mining through empirical, analytical, and numerical methods. The empirical method of rock mass rating (RMR) has been applied in this study to assess the rock mass quality and to guide the selection of a tunnel support system. However, the empirical approach using rock mass rating (RMR) does not accurately predict the support system’s effectiveness, stress redistribution, and deformation around the tunnel. Therefore, an analytical approach the convergent confinement method, and numerical modeling were utilized in this study to overcome the limitations. Results implied that the optimal tunnel support system for Cross Cut 61A is shotcrete 150 mm and steel sets with the spacing 1 m × 1 m, while Cross Cut 685 is shotcrete 100 mm and steel sets with the spacing 1 m × 1 m. Using shotcrete and steel sets together is more efficient in decreasing displacement, shear strain, and principal stress around the tunnel.
