A Holistic Study on Seismic Hazards in Bhubaneswar City, India, Integrating Probabilistic and Deterministic Methodologies

摘要

This study aims to conduct a comprehensive seismic hazard analysis of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, situated in the southeastern region of India. The assessment involved the meticulous evaluation of peak ground motion at the bedrock level, using the latest earthquake catalogue data. The earthquake catalogue was prepared by considering both the historical and instrumental events from various agencies and previous research works. The Seismotectonic map of India was used to identify the faults around the study region. The seismic fault zones are defined by considering the geological features and the seismic event density near the sources. The seismic hazard analysis was performed using both probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and deterministic seismic hazard analysis techniques. As per the results obtained from the analysis: seismic hazard curves and uniform hazard spectra (UHS) curves were proposed to provide guidelines for planning earthquake-resistant designs in the Bhubaneswar region. The UHS curves are further compared with the Indian standard code IS 1893:2016 response spectra curve with the combination of various importance factor (I) and response reduction factor (R).
