Acoustic Emission and Electromagnetic Radiation of the Coal-Rock Composite under Uniaxial Compression

The present study conducts uniaxial compression experiments to explore the mechanical behavior and internal damage evolution of the coal-rock composite. Acoustic emission (AE) and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) responses are synchronously recorded during the loading process. Subsequently, the corresponding b-value and fractal dimension are calculated. Moreover, failure patterns are presented to examine the crack development. Then the potential application of AE and EMR is discussed. The results indicate that the abnormal evolution of the b-value and fractal dimension of AE and EMR can be utilized as an effective index for the failure of the composite.
