Development of a next-generation in-flight separator for the RAON
摘要
The installation of the In-Flight (IF) fragment separator, one of Rare Isotope Accelerator Complex’s for ON-line experiments (RAON’s) key rare isotope production devices, is completed. The IF separator of the RAON is distinguished by its two-stage design and large acceptance, characteristics of a next-generation separator. The maximum rigidity of the IF separator is 7.6 Tm. The momentum acceptance is ± 3%, and the angular acceptances are ± 40 mrad in the horizontal and ± 50 mrad in the vertical directions. The IF separator consists of a target, beam dump, magnet system, and detector system. The production target and beam dump, both made of graphite, are capable of handling primary beams of up to 80 kW. The magnet system includes high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets (6 quadrupoles, 1 sextupole), low-temperature superconducting (LTS) magnets (13 quadrupole triplets), and resistive magnets (8 dipoles, 1 sextupole). The detector system for particle identification is developed based on the Bρ-ToF-ΔE method and is installed at each focal plane of the IF separator. In this paper, the design features and status of the IF separator are briefly described.
