摘要

The aquaculture industry plays significant role in establishing the nutritional stability of the country. It provides high nutritional value seafood, which helps in mitigating the major issue of malnutrition. Aquafeed mill, an allied unit of aquaculture industry, mainly focuses on the feed production for fishes. Hence, it provides the opportunistic way for different stakeholders and technical persons to start venture, however, environmental sustainability of the system is the major concern. The popularity and extension of this system solely depend on the query, whether the system is environmentally sustainable? Therefore, the present study addresses the issue with the help of the life cycle assessment (LCA) technique with two different LCA methods. The necessary inventory data were collected and subjected to the anaylsis of the impacts through Open LCA software. The results for different impact categories were analyzed and interpreted, notably aqua ecotoxicity (1067.7 kg TEG eq), water scarcity (48.12 m3 world eq), ionizing radiation (21,176.6 Bq C – 14 eq). The comparative view on two LCA methods (impact 2002 and ecological foot print) were also studied. The study presents different mitigation strategies using state of art technologies viz., automation, intelligence and optimization to make the system environmentally risk free.
