Synthesis of Cobalt Particle Functionalized Amorphous Carbon Nanotubes and Two-Ways Analysis of its Electron Field Emission Properties
摘要
This study presents the synthesis of cobalt nanoparticle decorated carbon nanotubes synthesized in amorphous form (a-CNTs) via chemical process at 225 °C. The obtained sample was characterized by XRD, FTIR, FESEM equipped with EDX set up. BET analysis provided the surface area and porosity of the system whereas FESEM and EDX study confirmed the microstructure and stoichiometry of the sample. The field electron emission behaviour of the sample has been thoroughly investigated, revealing promising performance. Given that this may be the first study on the cold cathode characteristics of cobalt-functionalized amorphous CNTs, it opens up exciting opportunities for further optimization and improvement.
A detailed analysis of the sample’s field emission characteristics was performed and for this both the Fowler–Nordheim as well as Millikan–Lauritsen approaches were used in order to determine the various related parameters as well as to verify between the established mathematical relationships between the two approaches. Thus, the article is believed to be important both from the technological advancement as well as basic scientific viewpoints.
